2000 Days Into the Events Industry- Part II

Updated: Sep 14, 2020

You know I have come across some event managers that are doing a fantastic job? Not because of how they manage the logistics or decor; anybody can do that; it's because of how dedicated they are to their employees needs and how they can be themselves instead of being under the constant radar of getting through the day for a paycheck. It's not about whom you hire and fire (I get it the hiring process is tiring) It's about listening to your people! Let's get into this.

First let's talk about:

Authenticity of events. People are emotional beings and to create experiences for them is a task that not all event managers really take up seriously. Creating an atmosphere by using Emcees or hosts is great but really engaging your audience by creating something valuable for them to take from that event, becomes the major focus. That is lost in the process of presenting a better plan or a budget (I get it clients can be a real pain sometimes) but if you aren't having some meaningful conversations to meet the "requirement journey" of your client and make them feel important, you are not growing. This applies to your employees as well. Are you making them feel important?

I surely think this needs a lot of thought and you need to start quick!

Next we talk about the Old methods that have been outdated in the B2B world but some how event managers are very quick to use them. Some marketing techniques - Emails, newsletters and website marketing are gone; nobody goes through newsletters or websites for information. The right use of social media is very essential and spending money on the right ads can really help.

Event managers follow trends of pioneers rather than the needs of their employees at this moment. Companies announce proudly that 'Trust and Cooperation is a standard in this company' while they are so quick to fire- if you fall on the wrong side be prepared to be afraid as we might kick you out. I don't know if that was clear enough but that escalates to your profits and how your employees sit with your clients and talk to them as well.

How is a company ever going to do well if nobody is given an opportunity to admit their mistake?

The next great opportunity that you are not adapting right now is technology and event collabs! How are you not utilizing new technology such as Stormboard or Trello to make your life easier? And you are missing out not collaborating with new companies that are doing phenomenally well and change the whole course for you.

These are a few areas where I feel that if event managers put in the right effort, can really pick up the pace. We need to focus on peoples needs and understand where we should be taking up responsibility before the blame. Thank you!

I hope this was helpful!

Thank you so much for reading!
